Things not covered in the rule section

Hello. I'm considering doing a run on the any% category. I'm a long time FO76 player but new to speedruns in general.

Raising this topic to clear whether we can or cannot use the following methods, since they aren't covered by the category rules. I don't want to have a run invalidated or having it being considered a cheated run, thus I'm looking for such clarification. Your comments are appreciated.

1 - Game modifications. I imagine those are not allowed however they are not covered by the rules, so I would appreciate for a clear statement on each of those items.

  • ba2 modification (mostly from, but not exclusive to Nexus mods https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout76)
  • ESM modification (Custom edits to Elder Scrolls Master file which control some client sided aspects)
  • External trainers (cheat engine/erectus - no comments here, but doesn't hurt to ask)

2 - Account wide unlockables

  • Account wide plans (Cold Shoulder for example is an atomic shop/seasonal item that can be crafted account wide, but still requires resources like legendary modules)
  • Camp allies

3 - Atomic Shop

  • Atomic shop camp items/slots. There are two free slots, however more can be purchased.
  • Atomic Shop consumables (Repair kits, scrap kits, carry weight booster, lunchboxes, bubblegum) - Alternatively obtained in game through Gold Bullion/Drops

Thank you

This is my interpretation from doing runs:

As for every speedgame - Modifications are not allowed unless stated otherwise in the rules, this means ba2 and ESM modifications as well as external trainers are not allowed.

For account wide unlockables and the atomic shop, I would say to just not use them as they can give an unfair advantage, unless they are purely cosmetic or can be obtained by a new player during the run.

All categories are essentially "new game" not "new game+" to allow new players to be in the same position as players who have thousands of hours in the game

This may not be the correct interpretation of the rules, but this is what all runners so far have done :)

Hey, thank you for showing interest in running 76! In order to keep things as fair as possible no mods are allowed, and Bethesda are quite strict on using external apps such as cheat engine so it's risky using them at all. The only exception I guess would be having custom loading screens images.

Using gameplay affecting purchases, for example camp/weapon plans and consumables isn't allowed however outfits won't invalidate a run as it is very easy to accidentally craft yourself an outfit that doesn't affect the gameplay. If you do get consumables through an in game event on the other hand they'd be okay to use. You can use the 1 survival tent that comes with fallout 1st and only the 1 camp all players can place.

As a general rule, assume that if you couldn't theoretically recreate the run on a brand new character, it would be unfair to other runners, this is why every category starts on a brand new character, to make it as fair as possible for everyone. Hope this clears things up and we can look forward to seeing a run soon!
